Frequently Asked Questions

1) DOES AN AUTOMATIC IRRIGATION SYSTEM WATER AS WELL AS WHEN DONE BY HAND?

Results can only be better.
A system made by an expert brings exactly the right amount of water to your green space.

2) DOES AN AUTOMATIC IRRIGATION SYSTEM REALLY HELP SAVE TIME?

Yes. You will no longer need to spend your precious time watering the lawn. Your new system will do it for you, even when you are away.

3) DOES AN AUTOMATIC IRRIGATION SYSTEM CONSUME MORE WATER THAN I AM CURRENTLY USING?

No. An automatic watering system is meant to save water. You will no longer need to worry about run-off water caused by overwatering or wasting water because you forgot to turn off the water. If equipped with a Rain Bird humidity sensor, your watering system will shut off automatically when it rains.

4) CAN I SAVE MONEY BY INSTALLING A SYSTEM MYSELF?

No! This could actually be even more costly in the long term. A professional installer will design and install the most cost effective and less water consuming system possible. An expert will choose the right material, while keeping necessary maintenance at a minimum to keep your garden healthy. Because your installer knows electrical and hydraulic standards, you do not need to worry over possible installation mishap, which can be expensive. An installer will work more quickly without disturbing surrounding plants, and guarantees a job well done.

 5) I WANT TO USE WATER FROM A LAKE OR A RIVER, HOW CAN I PREPARE MYSELF?

Many systems successfully use water from a well, a lake, or a river to irrigate. This requires equipment fit for the task. You will need a pump to extract the water by pressure and a filter to prevent any impurities (even if the water used is clear) from clogging your irrigators.

6) HOW MUCH DOES AN AUTOMATIC WATERING SYSTEM COST?

Many factors are taken into consideration to know the price of a system, such as the size of the property, the type of plants, and the study’s complexity.
You can count on our installer to design the most cost-efficient system with the Rain Bird products. Installers know Rain Bird provides quality products and dedicated customer services.

7) HOW OFTEN AND HOW LONG SHOULD I WATER MY LAWN?

Since every lawn is different, the answer to this question varies greatly. The best time to water and how long depend on the climate, the surrounding plants and the type of soil. Usually, it is advised to water thoroughly for a considerable amount of time, but less frequently, instead of watering often for a shorter amount of time. Watering less often promotes deeper water storage, which the plant roots will then seek to sustain themselves. Reversely, watering often helps to develop superficial roots instead. For specific information, we suggest to get in touch with a garden center, a turf farm, or the closest horticultural specialist and ask for advice on the watering program best suited to your region.

8) ESP-ME: ONCE THE WATERING CYCLE ENDS, A SECOND ONE STARTS. WHY IS THAT?

In the function "Watering starting time", number 1 means the first scheduled time of the day should be entered (setting up to 6 starting times is possible).
For every specified time, each electrovalve will operate automatically one after the other.
If a second starting time is entered (when the number 2 is on display), this means the controller will start a second time. When the first cycle is not over before the second scheduled time, the second cycle will start at the end of the first cycle, which explains the two cycles in a row you have noticed.
The solution is to delete the extra start time (from 2 to 6) and keep the No. 1 start-time.
Setting several starting times for the same day can be used to keep the soil humid throughout the day after sowing new grass or to bring water several times to avoid water ponding when the soil happens to be heavy.
